From 2009 to 2013, Jan HimSelf trained at Codarts, a leading circus school in Europe based in Rotterdam.
He graduated with a Bachelor in Circus Arts, a demanding and comprehensive program.
Before joining the school, Jan didn’t even know such a degree existed. Discovering this path became a turning point in his artistic journey.
An intensive and well-rounded training
Over four years, Jan followed an intensive program with around 40 hours of training per week.
This included :
- Body movement and expression
- Physical conditioning
- Stage presence and performance skills
- Circus techniques
With a main specialization in diabolo.
A balance between practice and theory
Alongside physical training, the program also included theoretical courses :
- Arts management
- Circus history
- Human anatomy
This balance between practice and theory allowed Jan to develop a complete understanding of his craft as a performer.
A key step in becoming a complete artist
This period was both intense and transformative.
It helped Jan develop technical skills, creativity and the ability to create fully developed performances.
Beyond the training, it was also a powerful human experience that shaped his artistic identity.
